Instructions to make an original Mexican Caesar salad

The ingredients followed by the original Caesar salad recipe are pretty simple. And the way to prepare this salad is similar.

Here are recipes you can refer to make delicious conventional Caesar salads.

Make Homemade Croutons

Bread is an indispensable ingredient in Caesar salad. Quite a few users have come to the bread available in stores to save processing time.

However, for your dish to have an authentic Mexican flavor, you must make your bread at home. It doesn’t take too long to make bread. All you need to do is prepare the bread balls and spread them on the baking tray.

Adjust the oven temperature so the bread can brown evenly. It would help if you turned it often for its even golden browning during baking. Pay attention to the oven to avoid burning the cake.

Baking time will depend on the number of cakes. To serve 4-5 people, it usually takes me about 15-20 minutes to complete a batch of cakes.

Make the Dressing

Mixing anchovies, egg yolks, and seasoning will take about 10-15 minutes.

In short, it’s not difficult to create your serving emulsion for your own original Caesar Mexican salad:

  • Put anchovies, mustard, and seasonings like garlic and salt in the same large bowl. Then, mix the ingredients well and mash them with a spoon.
  • Cook eggs: Boil eggs with enough water to cover the face. Cooking time, according to the authentic caesar salad recipe, is one minute. If you want the eggs to cook more thoroughly, you can increase the time to two minutes. Or you can also use egg whites to avoid the unwanted fishy taste.
  • Add fresh lemon juice and egg yolks to the bowl. Use a whisk to mix and whip the ingredients.
  • Pour the pureed ingredients into the bowl into the hand blender. Then, add enough olive oil to the machine and start the engine to puree the ingredients.
  • During the rotation, you can also continue to add olive oil to the mixture. Keep mixing the anchovies, eggs, and spices until they are smooth.
  • Beat the pepper and cheese with a spoon.

You can use any existing blender to puree food. Yet, you’re better off using an immersion blender for the smoothest emulsion.

Clean and Chop the Greens

Once you’ve finished blending the food, it’s time to prep the vegetables. With romaine lettuce, you need to wash it carefully, remove the outer leaves and cut off its root tips.

You can cut the ends in half to length and width. Then continue to chop the lettuce into smaller pieces.

Assemble the Salad

It’s time for you to combine the vegetables and the previous puree. Place vegetables in a salad bowl and top with anchovy and egg yolk mixture.

To spice things up, scrape fresh Parmesan and add it to salads instead of commercial sauces, which are easy to find at any store.

Original Caesar Mexican salad will be served with the toast you prepared in the first step. If you love spicy food, you can add some black pepper on top.

What are the quick recipe tips?

Today, you can find a few Caesar salads using the new recipe. Professional chefs often use mayonnaise or other special oils instead of traditional oils.

Yet, if you love the original Mexican taste, apply the formula I introduced to you. You will need some tips below to make a special-flavored salad confidently.

Chill the Salad Bowl

If you want your veggies to stay fresh, refrigerate the salad bowl. It is not difficult for you to implement this technique. And with just one simple step, your Mexican Caesar salad will stay cold when sautéed.

Grate Your Cheese

Pre-grated cheese will save you processing time. Yet, crumbs will often have a pretty lousy texture and taste.

If you love the rich flavor of freshly grated cheese, hand-grate the cheese every time you prepare a Caesar salad.

Make the Original Caesar Dressing by Hand

Even without a blender, you can still make a sauce mixture from anchovies, egg yolks, and spices.

To complete the sauce-making step, consider using a whisk. This tool will cost you a lot of time and effort. However, you will still get the emulsion with the required fineness with this universal device.

Cleaning the Romaine Lettuce

Cleaning vegetables before salad dressing is a step you cannot skip. And to save time, you can chop romaine lettuce before rinsing and use a Caesar salad dressing to dry the lettuce faster.

Substitute for Anchovy Paste

You can consider canned fish fillets if you can’t find the perfect anchovy meal. It will take a long time to grind and dry the fish meat. Besides, these ready-to-eat foods are easy to find at the grocery store or supermarket.

How to Serve

Original Mexican Caesar Salad comes with homemade toast and black pepper. Yet, this dish often comes with spinach and bacon at high-end restaurants. You can use the salad with rotisserie, chicken, or shrimp for a Mediterranean twist.

Properly storing ingredients can keep your food fresh for days.

In particular, you will have to pay special attention to the preservation process with ingredients such as romaine lettuce. But brown, quick-drying, and non-fresh lettuce won’t deliver the flavor you expect.

For the best taste, choose vegetables that don’t brown or wilt. After that, you need to use up all the vegetables within 2 – 5 days from when you buy them.

You can store the sauce in the refrigerator for a week. If you don’t have storage equipment, get the sauce as soon as possible.

For leftover salads, place them in an airtight container or plastic wrap and store them in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

FAQs

Why Do You Love Salad?

You will love salad for its flavor. Unlike many popular side dishes, this salad contains vegetable protein, which is suitable for the dieters’ taste.

Your dishes will also have a more distinctive color than those using available ingredients. Besides, it is also quite suitable for busy people because they do not take too much time preparing ingredients for a hearty meal.

What Goes Well With Caesar Salad?

You can use grilled chicken, rib-eye steak, turkey, and Caesar salad. If you love seafood, dishes such as shrimp, grilled salmon, and crab cakes are also worth considering.

Who Invented Caesar Salad?

Caesar is a name of an Italian chef, Caesar Cardini. Born in Italy as Cesare Cardini, he later moved to the United States and opened up a restaurant in the bustling city of Tijuana, Mexico.

In 1924, Caesar Cardini created a new salad recipe at his restaurant in Tijuana. This dish is easy to prepare and attracts users all over the world with the flavor of eggs, anchovies, and many special spices.

How to Thicken Caesar Dressing

Mix the cornstarch and liquid to thicken Caesar dressing in a 1:1 ratio. Then, cook the mixture over low heat until the corn expands.

When you add this mixture to the vinegar, it quickly thickens. Finally, use the cornstarch mixture to reduce the Caesar dressing.

The Bottom Line

Cesare Cardini created his eponymous salad in his busy kitchen with ingredients. To this day, his famous recipe is still a favorite.
